oiseaux sale

Invisible birds is having a sale for 40% off on bandcamp to lighten our inventory for a potential office shift

Please use the code smallbirds to expedite a proper discount. Preferable is physical merchandise rather than digital.

Not too many copies remaining of this record. This release was a Boomkat "something special" and on the Mojo best new LP list. The Vatican mortuary has been known to play this LP whilst performing dissections and vivisections of high-ranking Vatican officials and unfortunate goat herders caught spreading anti-catholique propagandas. If played backwards these recording offers insight into the Les Champ des Étoiles inquiries rumored to have taken place in 1471 around Nuremberg

The second IK release, includes a DVD of films by Tarrl Lightowler. These medications on the existence of Lust and Representations of Death in pre-Revolutionary War American home invasions elicited much debate amounts the field-recording enthusiasts and quickly created a new standard for 17th century-inspired birding traditions of Southern Italy, of which the Kollektiva was very proud.

Ingenting Kollektiva 3

The third release from the Kollektiva is a guitar-oriented release of fictitious character modifications made with a Jazzmaster and a Twin Reverberation. These recordings challenged the establishment in ways unclear to the band, yet still remained vital to their growth in general. The Kollektiva largely disbanded after this release due to alcohol and drug abuses whilst touring through Montieren Sie Analog.

Abstract visual and sonic suicides spread through with ephemera, photographs, letters and instruments left behind by the untouched forest people. The entire Asphodel is embodied with the vicarious memories related to musical abstraction; the experience of light moving in time, and oblivion distilled into pure sensation. Recordings made in Turkey.

Simulacra-infraction, gathers and gatherings of sound moments progressively taking place over a period of time. The material originally traversed through Berry's editing system like an alchemist's mystery-liquid, distilling through his alembic and becoming a final sonic spirit that takes innumerable forms and can no longer be recognized. This process is so beyond words and creates work that is further beyond words; the listener enters a Complete Void.

A post Ingenting album from Mr. Swiezynski. The recordings are highly memory-annihilated mediations on further reworkings of memory-truncated musics which began with slow-duplication processes of glitching errors turning to once-had-forgotten dreams augmented and purified in the tradition of chance procedures.

religious melancholy in defect, information on two forthcoming invisible birds releases

two forthcoming releases on invisible birds
a kickstarter campaign will commence quite shortly

ingenting kollektiva - an anatomy of melancholy

recordings revolving around the atmosphere of george büchner's lenz,
the recordings of krzysztof penderecki and the idea of lontano (as from a distance / distant),
the textures of jordi savall, and ingmar bergman

edited and constructed by matthew swiezynski
artwork by mathias fludd / design by matthew swiezynski
electric guitar on religious melancholy in defect by james hamilton
acoustic guitar on lenz two. büchner guitar solo by johannes d'église
field recordings by tarrl lightowler & matthew swiezynski
all tracks recorded in arthur de eriomém's rural library casa di memoria

asphodel - aokigahara, the black sea of trees

aokigahara, the black sea of trees is an abstract story-telling which takes place in a forest located in mount fuji, japan. the forest of aokigahara, has a world-wide fame for the thousands of suicides which took place there and now has an almost mythological statue.

the forest is spread all through with ephemera and items such as photographs, letters and instruments left behind by the leavers, all untouched due to respect. almost the entire forest is covered with long ribbons people used to be able to return if they changed their mind. therefore, the entire land is embodied with the vicarious objects that depict the sense of memory, loss and hope.

the sense of an intrinsic lament and stepping into the oblivion gets distilled in to sensation of belonging to life and hope. the emphasis is the romantic and contextual countenance of life relived through the forest.

i'll probably never see you again (ask me why and ill spit in yr eye)

boomkat best of 2012 (via richard skelton)

here's one of those beautiful drone albums that should resonate with anyone keen on something to follow stars of the lid, the caretaker, or basinski. the ingenting kollektiva remains something of a mystery both to us and, so it seems, to the rest of the world. some information about their ideas are available (thanks to the impressionistic "art of memory" blog run by the kollectiva's m. swiezynski), but much remains purposefully arcane, which suits their smoke and mirror approach to sound design. the kollectiva's first album seemed an homage to ingmar bergman's definition of nothingness, in spanning the existential gap between the mundane and the eternal void. it also channelled a zeitgeist that threaded together various pieces of music and film from 1969, but the results of that project formed an ethereal set of dronemuzik that found a particular voice that transcended the cultural references.

the ghostly mood and nocturnal spell of their first album continues here on lost beyond telling, tracking further back in time with references to messiaen and baudelaire. and again, the kollecktiva finds itself making a slow, almost liturgical album of minimalist serenades through heavy processed instruments (guitar, cello, psaltry, etc.), field recordings, and manipulated pieces of crusty vinyl. a beautiful night sea music opens the album with pools of deep drones that gradually fracture into basinski-like looping patterns phased through a refined use tremolo and delay. comparatively scabrous textures churn through spiralling bird-song-like twitter on "the dark backward abysm of time" all leading up to the somber, twenty-three minute conclusion of damp field recordings and backmasked bells dragging through a darkened loveliness of oceanic driftscaping getting close to a salt marie celeste vibe. so nice!

the dvd portion of the program features two distinct visual aesthetics from within the kollektiva. the first four short films come by way of tarrl lightowler, who operates with an intense stroboscopic flickering of ever magnifying, ever vibrant images. thickets of wire, bright petals, chunks of ice, and piles of leaves are just a scant number of the images that lightowler projects in his videos, all siphoning out of a violent vortex of pulsing light. for all of its natural source materials, his videos are quite violent, countering the hypnotic wash of the sound, much of which originates from the material on the cd. brilliant stuff for sure, but please watch carefully, as retinal fatigue comes on very quickly with these films. the two latter films are from matthew swiezynski, whose videos are far murkier with whisps of fire and shadows of the landscape dominating the darkened field of vision. on both of his films, the sounds are wholly unique based on creepy sounding loops that could have been culled from tibetan horns and harmonium.

alchemy film festival

loops from ingenting kollektiva's forthcoming cd + dvd lost beyond telling playing at scotland's alchemy film festival, fri 26th - sun 28th october 2012

in addition, invisible birds has just sent the cd + dvd master of lost beyond telling to the manufacturer, and should have copies to sell shortly.

notes to the screening :

synopsis:
the spectral analysis loops are a series of films by tarrl lightowler (image, editing, sound) and matthew swiezynski (editing and sound). there are four so far, they can be shown together or separate. the starting off point for this is a quote from paul celan :
"i attempt to render sections from the spectral analysis of things, to show them in many aspects and permutations simultaneously: their relations, sequences and oppositions.
unfortunately i am unable to observe things from all sides...i consider my so-called abstraction and my actual ambiguity to be moments of realism."
the films are loops made from animated photographs of Natur taken by tarrl lightowler and then generally remixed by matthew swiezynski with either new soundtracks, or extended versions of sound from their LP fragments of night. Nature, landscape, poetry, alchemy and perception are very important to this series.
biography/filmography:
tarrl lightowler and matthew swiezynski have been making films/videos exclusively dealing with nature for 20 years now and about 15 years together. the collaboration comes from a desire to use abstraction (in image and sound) to deal with Natur directly, in a way not dissimilar from the great Romantics.

venue: main auditorium - heart of hawick, tower mill
screening date: sunday 27th october
screening time: 1.30pm

plus rouge que le feu d'enfer

matthew swiezynski - forthcoming red camera film
to be released on oiseaux invisibles 2012

Friday, March 16, 2012

take me out tonight, take me anywhere, i don't care, i don't care, i don't care (forthcoming red camera film on invisible birds)

(forthcoming red camera film)

take me out tonight
where there's music and there's people
and they're young and alive

driving in your car
i never never want to go home
because i haven't got one anymore

take me out tonight
because i want to see people
and i want to see life

driving in your car
oh please don't drop me home
because it's not my home, it's their home
and i'm welcome no more

and if a double-decker bus
crashes in to us
to die by your side
is such a heavenly way to die
and if a ten ton truck
kills the both of us
to die by your side
well the pleasure, the privilege is mine

take me out tonight
take me anywhere, i don't care
i don't care, i don't care
and in the darkened underpass
i thought oh god, my chance has come at last
but then a strange fear gripped me
and i just couldn't ask

take me out tonight
oh take me anywhere, i don't care
i don't care, i don't care

driving in your car
i never never want to go home
because i haven't got one
no, i haven't got one

and if a double-decker bus
crashes in to us
to die by your side
is such a heavenly way to die
and if a ten ton truck
kills the both of us
to die by your side
well the pleasure, the privilege is mine

there is a light that never goes out
there is a light that never goes out
there is a light that never goes out
there is a light that never goes out
there is a light that never goes out
there is a light that never goes out
there is a light that never goes out
there is a light that never goes out

spectral analysis loops : ingenting kollektiva fragments of night shipping now

2 spectral analysis loops for our new release *

finally available, after two years in the making (and three more months in limbo) : ingenting kollektiva's fragments of night, from oiseaux invisibles.

ingenting kollektiva is an homage to the films of ingmar bergman and sven nykvist.

the kollektiva recordings are meditations on the quality of light, sound, and atmosphere, as well as realizations of the various forms of "nothingness" captured by these swedish 2 masters.

christmas of 2009, the kollektiva found themselves surrounded with many recordings from the year 1969, including :

miles davis & teo macero's in a silent way, and bitches brew
john surman's way back when, and how many clouds can you see?, and extrapolation (with john mclauglin)
bert jansch's birthday blues
vashti bunyan's just another diamond day (recorded december 1969)
fairport convention's unhalfbricking
jan garbarek & terje rypdal's esoteric circle
king crimson's in the court of the crimson king
scott walker's scott walker 4
holger czukay's canaxis
(plus many more).

with this in mind, the kollektiva recorded some songs in the lightowlers' barn during a rainstorm, and later added recordings from northern california and los angeles. the editing process then became something similar to macero's work for miles davis.

the recording has been issued as a long play record with a gatefold sleeve and photographs by tarrl lightowler.

thanks so much to taylor deupree for making this such a beautiful recording.

* spectral analysis loops : a collaboration between tarrl lightowler, matthew swiezynski and ingenting kollektiva : a forthcoming cd/dvd by invisible birds with extended versions from fragments of night

more light, and more darkness (program notes)

notes from the recent screening in los angeles,
thanks to those who came and sent kind words.
dvd out next year on invisible birds *

light in the darkness, or darkness moves
recent work by tarrl lightowler and matthew swiezynski
(and the ingenting kollektiva)

matthew swiezynski - i can feel the sea falling over my head - 2008-2010
filmed on christmas in 2008, this video documents some beautiful harmonium playing by d granahan accompanied by the sounds of a warm fireplace. the work starts out as a somewhat straightforward documentation, and then moves towards the end into abstraction, not dissimilar to alvin lucier's i am sitting in a room, though more akin to the transcendent qualities of indian classical music.
matthew swiezynski - it is something invisible - 2008-2010
the work for this video started by using a camera to collect images of trees using a method inspired by the films of michael snow and stan brakhage. this method involves spinning the camera around in the woods for as long as the body can tolerate (60-90 seconds), and then using a computer to layer and extend the raw footage. one way to think about the film is of a camera gathering small fragments of time from a forest that exists in larger periods of time (the life of the forest), and stretching these moments into something more appropriate to what the trees would see rather than someone passing through.
tarrl lightowler - as yet untitled - 2010
mr. lightowler has been making films of light on water for some 15 or more years. these 3 excerpts are from a longer planned work that involves an extremely refined way of thinking about and photographing the way light, movement and time leave an impression on water. this new work is accompanied by recordings made by the ingenting kollectiva on christmas 2009, edited by mr. lightowler.

********

"tarrl lightowler and matthew swiezynski are two filmmakers who make attempts at photographing "ingenting", or, what is not visible to the naked eye (nothingness).

with the use of many ingenting devises, they have chanced upon a few moments of visual phenomena, otherworldliness, minimalism and abstractions, in the tradition of the romantics and their observations of Natur.

these devises generally involve some sort of alembic apparatus; something to distill and abstract images and sound, and can include movement, time, layering, beauty, grain, ephemera, etc.

in addition, to find work that is in a tradition that would include: agnes martin, robert walser, mark rothko, morton feldman, melville, victor hugo, henri michaux, michael snow & ernie gehr, j. s. bach, philippe jaccottet, ingmar bergman & gunnar fischer and sven nykvist, bela tarr, eliane radigue, robert musil, marcel duchamp, robert bresson, john ford, thomas köner, terrence malik, andrei tarkovsky, h.p. lovecraft, powell & pressburger to name a few.

and in general: jazz, abstract expressionism, 20th century classical music, french, russian and german poetry & literature, renaissance, netherlandish and dutch painting, early music, birdsong, distant melodies, and drone music."
