MANDALA VI (2018) by Chi Yun

If in the Hudson Valley of New York, please visit the Pinkwater Gallery in Kingston where my wife Chi Yun has 2 of her meditations on nature-abstraction, shamanism, spirituality, and metaphysics are on view from now until 11/27, with an opening on Saturday, October 15 from 6 to 8pm.

Regarding the Mandala Series:

The paintings are a meditation on three cosmic zones. There is a core circle which is starting from the observational zone. It symbolizes looking within, reflection and inside the Earth. The second circle is the connection between myself, earth and nature. The outer circle represents enlightenment and transformation. All these molecules are forming into a whole, searching for completeness.  This vision of the Mandala is rooted in Shamanism, The Occult, and Buddhism, yet has been transformed through my individual process into something more unique and personal.

in addition to curating this website, the art of memory curates a record label that when spoken is called invisible birds.

our newest release is music by the british drone & ambient master keith berry who resides in l'angleterre.

the alchemist jim haynes said of his work: "like falling snow, his dreamy work drifts with a poetic chill and tranquil hypnosis through which peripheral elements tease the listener with subtle details. it's so damn beautiful..."

a bit of background on this release: one of the great inspirations for invisible birds was bernhard günter and his seminal label trente oiseaux. the releases had an enormous influence and one of the gems was keith berry's the golden boat. it was with much pleasure when mr. berry wrote asking invisible birds to release his newest work elixir, and after listening to the wonderful kosmic washes of sound, there was no question than to proceed. the CD features abstract drawings by matthew swiezynski, and graphics by the brooklyn-based design kollektive mount analogue (chi yun and matthew swiezynski).

mr. berry said of the release: "the source material for the heavily granular processed sound that makes up elixir stems from another album of mine titled simulacra to be released shortly by infraction. not so much a remix album but a different take on material that had a strong pull on me, wanting me to return to it and explore the permutations that digital editing software allows."

keith berry is one who gathers many moments of sound over a period of time. the material for this recording (and simulacra on infraction records) traversed through berry's editing system like an alchemist's mystery-liquid, distilling through his alembic and becoming a final sonic spirit that takes innumerable forms and can no longer be recognized. this process is so beyond words and creates work that is further beyond words; the listener enters a complete void.

a night of experimental, psych, drone, kosmische music with live visuals

community of light is a collective of artists & musicians working in the post kraut cosmic drone continuum which was initiated by mr. robert fludd and has come to full fruition in the twenty-first century in various forms.  specifically; as pursuers of the Light, which is often called Darkness, and a sound we call silence (with a method called night vision).

one critic of note has said of the community : "community of light reconceives a music that has for a long time been gathered from the invisible and most ancient of all communities, which has been in existence since the creation of the Cosmos, and will be with us through the end of time.  their music is highly influenced by krautrock, psychedelic, ambient, british folk, electronic and experimental and avant garde music."

bios :

chi yun is a visual artist, painter, designer and electronic ambient musician who moved to oakland after residing in brooklyn for many years.  her work has been shown in group exhibitions in new york and is based on geometric abstraction, surrealism, mysticism and shamanism. 

matthew swiezynski is an abstract film-maker and musician based in oakland california. he currently operates the record label invisible birds, which issues music and dvds by artists who work with abstraction, the environment, bird life, and the spiritual in art.  he is a member of the ingenting kollektiva with tarrl lightowler and has also released some solo recordings.

michael malinski (aka michael michael), originally trained in traditional darkroom fine art photography, has expanded into studies & works in paper making, ink drawing, jewelry design & construction, and music. his work, often based on dreams and subconscious states, has shown in solo & group exhibitions in and around chicago, new york, tucson and san francisco. he currently resides in cherryland.
